Come with me now on a journey of pure imagination. Once apon there was a kingodm of elves and shit and one day they suddenly realized the Dark Lord that had been managing their economy and society in general had become very ill and was slowly dying and that the minions of the Dark Lord was quickly and quitely looting the throne room and seizing all the gold. The story goes that they rebelled against Dark Lord and the usurpers, in some versions of the story they even win, or at least dont lose. In some tellings they even manage to form their own kindgom, but with no king and they learn to share. Their cities become bauetiful and free, for a moment at least, but they soon realize they now have to provide for them sevles, and beyond survivial, create a rich and flurishing realm were everyones need were met.

Now, lets say for the sake of narative, that many of the newly liberated citites of the elves had in ye’ tymes of ol’ be been greats hub of magic and enchant, but in the last few life cylces, (evles dont life that only in this story, i guess) all the wizards who could do magic had moved to the other side of the world to the Gnome Kingom for reasons that are myriad and complex, but probably also part of a plot by the Dark Lord and his court. Also before you ask, they didnt fall off because of magic, obviusly. So anyway the elves realized that even though all the wizards left a long time ago, they had left many of their arcaniums and some of their their scrolls behind. dusty and disused, but still there.

ok lore drop time. like any good fanatasy world, this world some had contrived and arbitrary bullshit that govererned the use of magic. in this world, one of those laws was that you cound not reproduce the magic of other wizards without playing them gold. How this came to be is lost to time. Even healing magic or magic that helped crops grow could not be used without paying dearly. I know this all seems redicoulus, but Dark Lords, amirite? So the elves realized that instead of not using these spells to help themselves rebuild thier communities they would in fact do that. So they did. They quickly figured out how to generate their own health potions. This made the Dark Lord every mad, but instead of caving to his will, the elves didn’t and kept making all the heal pots they needed. In fact they made so many heal pots they had a fuckton of extras.

The elvish cities that figured out the old magic and started to give away heal pots to the other free elves, but they still had extra. They figured out that since the Dark Lord was still conspiring with the heal tank clerics of his realm to extort all the gold they could from his subjects. A few of the free elves began sneak back into his territory with thier heal pots and returned with much gold. Even by charging the conquered elves just one gold peice for every ten they would have to giv e the Dark Lord and his wizards, the free alchemists were able to become wealthy and share that wealth with the other free elves. As time went on, the conquered elves realized the the extent of their exproperation at the hands of the Dark Lord, they too started to brew their own heal pots, which did lead to less profit for the free elves, but they were chill about it becauase they were down with sharing and by that time they were developing and learning other forms of magic and relic forging.

Wait so i ned to go back for a second. i forgot to tell you about the Light vs. Dark Magic duality nonsesne, because of course that is a thing. Now in the Dark Empire they used Dark magic and on the other side of the Earth they use Light Magic. The sages disargee about wether the Emporer of the Light kingdom was Light Him self, many beleived he was just a differnet they kind of Dark Lord. It’s unclear, thou he certainly was an Emporer if that tells you any thing. Either way, the deal with the duality motif is that when Dark Magic was used, it gave off bad vibes and warped the natural world around it in disturbing ways and it was already casuing alot of problems. Over in the Gnome Kingdom they also used alot of Dark Magic, but they aslo were rapidly devineing new ways to use Light Magic. Light Magic also had problems, but they were far far less harmful than Dark Magic. The most importat was probably the magical charriots that could be powered with Light Magic and new glyphs that could summon new Light Magic more quickly.

The Dark Lord and his court was so cartoonishly evil, BWWAAAHH!, that he did not allowed anyone to used Light Magic in his Kingdom and espically kept Gnomish Light spells and thier chartiots out, even thou may of his subjects wanted them. Why? Because he was evil. Any way, the liberated elves realized they could forge their own Light Charriots and start laying thier own sigils to summon Light Magic to power all kinds of things. The Elders who speak of this prophecy are divived amongs themselves as to the exact circumstances of this transfer of knoweldge. Some say the free elves stole the Gnome wizards scolls and copied them, some say the Gnomes wanted to help the free Elves, either of pure kindness or to destabalized the Dark Lord, who was the rival to Their Emporer of Light. Some even say the elves neve forged their own charriots but were bringing in those crafted in the Gnome Kingdom. I dunno if I believe this, thou i supposed its possible that they did early on before deveolping their own mythril forges.

Whos to say, as the tale is yet unwritten. the point is that the newly freed elves became prospurouse and strong by ingnoring the Gold Pact of Magic and replicating common spells, relics and potions, before ultimaly mastering their crafts and deloping their own incantations. They were also able to help the elves that were not yet free by offering solutions to problems that Dark Lord was hording and shit.

The End
